In other parts of world, where we have been given automatic 90 day stays, we have indulged in visa runs, ie left the country for a little while and returned a few days later with a new 90 day visa.  I know there is no hope for me with my British passport but my husband has obtained the holy grail …an Irish passport! . Can he, in effect,  do visa runs, ie leave the country and return with a new 90 day allowance.?  We understand that if he stays more than 90 days he has to register with the authorities and initiate residency procedures.  He doesn’t want to do this until we are certain residency is what is wanted.

Yep, he most certainly can.  As an Irish passport holder, he has freedom of movement.  He can come and go pretty much as he pleases.  “Overstaying” the 90 days as an Irish passport holder is AT WORST an administrative offence only and not one the authorities really bother about

I knew DarioMartin that you would know the answer to this.  Husband delighted to find out he can get rid of me for half the year!  He thanks you for your help…
