That would definitely be the easiest way, although it’ll take around 4 weeks to get a UK licence.  If you’ve only been in Canada 12 years, did you have previous British licenses? If so you don’t need to swap - simply ask for Brit licence to be reissued - although you will need a UK address

i Can attest to the efficacy of this, as I am close to someone that came over with an Australian licence which is not transferable in Spain.  As this person had a UK Passport, they swapped the Aussie licence for a UK one, then on receipt swapped the UK one for a Spanish one

We are having no response from the DVLA after leaving numerous messages on the phone number given for outside the UK.

Would it be better to send in a postal application as we do have a family address in England?
