We travel twice a year to and from the uk from Spain and travel via car with our dog.
From the UK you must have a UK health certificate for your pet to get into the EU. It’s hideously expensive and only good for a single trip, so if multiple trips are happening you need to get a EU pet passport.
We got one for our dog. Initially it cost approximately 30euros for the document and another 30euros for the rabies vaccination.
The passport lasts for 12 months and is good for as many crossings as required. To return to the UK each time our dog is required to have a worming tablet and your EU vet must supply it and put the relevant stamp in the passport. It’s not expensive.
Importantly, the vet will carry out a quick health check of your dog and records that too in the passport.
So, the passport will have three stamps, rabies, worming tablets and health checks. It is essential that the stamp is also signed by the vet otherwise you may have problems at the UK border.
I fully recommend that if you’re regularly travelling with your dog between the UK and EU to get a pet passport. The initial cost will be higher because you’ll have to pay for a UK health certificate to get to the EU and then you will be paying an additional 60 or 80euros for the pet passport. However, subsequent costs are much lower.
We use Clínica Veterinaria Garrucha.
Good luck
