I am contemplating buying an apartment in Vera Playa near Las Marinas. Are there many ex pat clubs/societies locally where we can socialise ? Where do the majority of brits frequent e g  bars and restaurants nearby ..loving the Spanish vibe but also keen to catch up with local expats/holidaymakers

Vera Playa is usually busy during high season and a lot quieter at other times of the year.  Immigrants from other countries, including from the UK, live there. You should find plenty of bars and restaurants where the staff speak English ( if you want to live here but dont intend trying to learn any Spanish).

If you are going to live in las marinas its not far from Pueblo Laguna.  There is the millionaire's sports bar,  round the corner from there Dee's Bar.  Both serve food. And most  of the people speak ir are English.  No community as such you just meet people by frequenting these places. Also la as Buganvilas is a great place for shopping (small local shops not supermarkets), alot if Brits there also.

Thanks Lynn ..I must confess feedback received re  flooding from others on the forum suggests Las Marinas a bit too close for comfort re  the area that floods ..albeit it did seem like a decent spot if a little quiet re English bars etc . Thanks

Las marinas didn't flood.  We are up the hill towards Garrucha.  Las Buganvilas and the area around the la Fuente urbanisation were lower and they were flooded.

Thanks for that ..my understanding of the area is sketchy but the urbanisation Las MARINAS and Torreleguna I recently viewed appear to be really close by the avenueJuan Sebastion which bore the brunt? ..I understand the general area was disrupted for some time as a result and assume the adjacent areas would be more expensive or difficult to insure ..shame as both I viewed above looked nice

Thanks again for the heads up all.. you tube videos pretty scary!

Yes Torrelaguna is in the area that was flooded, i hadn't realised that was called las marinas, too.  I would suggest anyway you rent for a while to get the feel of the place.  As i said up the hill towards Garrucha is what i term as las marinas.  Several places in Las Conches road have lots of apartments.

Bear in mind that the word "Laguna " means lake...... Closer to Garrucha the land rises so properties are at less risk from flooding.

Hi we bought our apartment in Residential Las Marinas opposite the beach and with the complex that has Millionaires bar and now the new Pizza and Indian restaurant.  The pizza restaurant relocated from las Bulongvillas area and was our favourite so we are pleased. There is also Laguna restaurant on the corner and Dees bar a bit further along. We love to be by the beach and then finish up in Millionaires for a drink and something to eat. Millionaires also has all the football and sports on tv.  It's great to walk along the paseo to Garrucha and the restaurants there.

There is another community also call Las Marinas and I think this is between la Laguna and Garrucha but further back from the beach. Unfortunately we have only managed one long weekend in January this year but my son managed to get out in the summer months.

We haven't witnessed any floods, it does rain heavy for a short while around second week in September but we are on 1st floor so do not have that worry.

Good luck on finding your new place.
