For any one interested, Hola Fibra have bought Fibre Optic broadband to Valle del Este.  They have a retail office in the Centro Comercial, next to Gesturbansur.

The packages are a really good price - for example, the one I’m taking is 100Mbps synchronous (that’s 100Mbps down AND up,) unlimited data, 100 TV Channels and fixed line phone for 29,95€

It is Fibre To The Door, so no speed drop due to a copper run to the node.

This just for those that may be interested

Saludos, Darío

Are the 100 tv channels in English?

As far as I am aware, yes.  I’ll find out next week because the installation date I’ve been given is 20th - 24th August ......  it’s an IPTV package, so I’d have to say “yes”

Hi John, speeds are good and quite stable. We don’t use the TV box that came with it, so can’t tell you what channels it has on; although VdE itself appears to have 80 odd channels of TV, at least 10 of which have English programming.

Been with them just in a year now, it’s fibre to the modem, the box being a Huawei Optical Network Terminal, so no speed drop.  I pay for 100 Mbps up and down and in speed test am showing 92 - 94 Mbps

Sounds ideal will pop in and talk to them when iam over next time. You mention VdE has 100 channels itself, does that mean you can tune into their own tv?

Regards

John

Yes indeed.  Just plug in your TV and you have access to the 100 odd digital channels that VdE carries.  Only around 10 are English, the rest are Spanish / French, but if you're after some casual English TV, then you don't need to pay money to buy IPTV boxes ..... that is unless you avidly follow Brookside / East Enders etc etc .....  The English channels seem to carry Movies, TV series such as CSI etc etc .... I'm not a big TV watcher, so I can't go into great detail, but just flicking through I've seen BBC, E4, E4+ plus a few more.

I think that what is on the IPTV box offered with HolaFibre is a pretty close match to what is already on the VdE "network", which is probably why we didn't bother connecting the box.  I can certainly recommend the Fibre Optic connection - like I say, it's fibre all the way to the modem, not just the door; the speeds are good and prices very very reasonable for what you get.  I would say though that if it is dedicated English programming you are after, including sports on Sky / BT, then you´ll likely have to source (and pay for ...) a dedicated English IPTV box as well.  There are a few about and you´ll get a load of recommendations on this forum.

Hi Dario

I was over last week and the Holafibra shop was closed every day although they had s sign on the door with opening hours on. Do you have a contact number as I don’t seem to be getting through.
