Veloz Rubios is well inland, probably 1.5 hrs from coast, and very high so cold in winter months. Plenty of resturants and bars.

Based on our experience of traveling from Chirivel to Aguilas on the coast, I would say that the journey from Velez Rubio to the coast is just a shade under an hour.
There are quite a few bars and restaurants in Velez Rubio and also in the nearby Velez Blanco
