Hi Lisa
A bit of a slow reply to your post, but one thing we did is have a deposit put in underground. It's 10 cubic metres and fills from the mains just like a water tank in the loft (though I am told that is now old hat, and people don't have tanks anymore). Water is pumped from the deposit into the house so you get good pressure for the showers. If the mains cuts out, then you have enough water in the deposit for about 20 days or so, depending on your usage. As soon as the mains is back on, the deposit refills. If your water supply is intermittent, then it might be worthwhile.
