I'm building a house in a rural location that will not have a postal address, so I'll need a PO box in Velez Rubio (or Velez Blanco) to be able to receive mail. Anyone know how to go about getting one?

If you go into the Correos in Velez Rubio they have boxes in there that you can rent.  I think they charge quite a bit, so you might want to put your own box up if you can find out where your nearest neighbours have theirs.

Thanks Paul - so can we simply fix a lockable metal box to a wall on a nearby main road and give that as our postal address?

The other thing we're not sure of is whether we can use a PO Box address when applying for a bank account or signing up for a Spanish mobile phone, satellite broadband etc?

Assuming your build is legal (?!) then I would have thought you will have an address, as it identifies your parcela.  However you're at the limit of my knowledge here.  You can then arrange with the Correos if you want them to keep the post for that address in a box there.

Our nearest neighbour is about 1km away and seems keen to help (but then he likes hunting on my land). He told me where his box is, and we put one up next to his and told them at the Correos.  So far so good....
