Driving licence?
We have still got our UK driving licence and I have just read that we should exchange it to a European one before Brexit. Is this correct?

Very much so, yes - if you have Residencia and live in Spain you are obliged to change your licence anyway

hi... I read a while ago that once UK was out of EU (in the sense of 29th March at the time), if the UK driving licence was not exchanged for a Spanish one then there was the possibility or probability depending on where I read stuff- that a Spanish theory test and driving test will be required. As stated before, once you are resident in Spain you are required to change the licence anyway.
The process is reasonably simple and if you can speak Spanish I believe you could do it yourself, I think. You need to get a medical certificate - we went to Policlinico in Huercal Overa took about 20 mins and €45 (blood pressure taken, eye test, coordination test) they give you a certificate. You need 2 photos smaller than passport size but we went to the photographers in Huercal €5.50 each and she gives you a set of which she just cut 2 down to the required size. Now for the bit we didn't do ourselves.. actually doing the technical bit. We can't speak much Spanish yet and we're more than happy to let a professional do it. We went to Juan Rubio's in Huercal... job done . I haven't got their fee to hand but whatever it was to us it was worth it. I hope this helps a little. Obviously there will be a lot of people who did it all themselves but we chose not to.
Unless you have Residencia you cannot change your driving licence, once Residencia is gained you have six months to exchange for a Spanish equivalent having satisfied the requirements of the health check, in a no deal scenario the Spanish government are giving UK nationals that have Residencia 9 months in which to complete the exchange, should you wish to return to the UK at any point on a permanent basis then the Spanish licence can be exchanged for a UK equivalent at that time....

We have international driving licenses - I say plural as Spain is a different one to France - they issue them at big post offices in U.K. - You Pay a fee and bring your UK license and passport photos - We got ours in February when it was rolled out in case of a BrExit panic. Would that be a solution for people that don’t have residencia yet?

Yes ..... and no. That’s a knotty one. An IDP is valid if you are “holidaying” in a country, i.e. not resident. Now although a person may not have residencia, if they are starting the residencia process they are then not holidaying and are resident which means Tráfico may not recognize validity of an IDP .....
If you live in Spain full time you should have a Spanish licence, but if not ie only so many months of the year you can get a international licence at a uk post office 5.50 pounds a year
Might it depend on why you do not have residencia? If you are in the process of getting it then I would have thought you could use the International one until you do get it but if you are living here permanently and not started the residencia process then you are in a pretty vulnerable position for everything, not just driving licences
Because I only vist 4 months a year holidays etc split over a year so I do not need to be s resident and international licences are world wide accepted. I was talking about nine residents
None residents
