As tax residents in Spain with workplace pensions in the UK we are looking for advice from anyone who has / considered transferring UK pension funds into QROPS (Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme).  Pros and cons.  Which financial institution you use.

Also looking for recommendation of an Independent Financial advisor who will deal with expats UK pensions and investments.

I have spent some time looking into these, and not found it easy to work out a clear list of strengths/weaknesses.  You definitely need professional advice, ideally (ironically) not from a QROPS specialist who would have a higher incentive to sell their favoured product.   The wikipedia article on them is a decent summary, especially the short list of circumstances in which they may be useful

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qualifying_Recognised_Overseas_Pension_Scheme

My understanding is that as Spain and UK have a double tax treaty (and presumably will do even if the UK does chop off its Brexit nose to spite its European face), there is little to gain by moving funds into a QROPS, albeit little to lose either, other than transaction fees.  However I would happily stand corrected if others think otherwise.
