This list seems similar to options in England, though not many would use reverse a/c here (at least before last very hot summer!). It would be good to know the relative costs which could be different in Spain - is wood for stoves widely available and is it expensive, is reverse a/c efficient in its use of electricity, how does the cost of electricity/ oil for central heating in Spain compare to the prices in Britain? There is governmental pressure and subsidy to be very well insulated in this cold country, all new windows are double glazed unless they are especially made, does this apply to modern or old houses in Almeria?
wood for stoves is widely available but relatively expensive.if you want to go that route, stove is preferable to an open fire.
we have always liked the portable gas heaters but you need to be careful with them, be sure to use a carbon monoxide detector with them. the heaters can be purchased new for around 65€ and up, you will need a few gas bottles if you are using them and a gas water heater, the bottles can be obtained at some of the 'junk' shops that are around and about. once you have them you can exchange for full ones at shops (local supermarkets like the ones in the Coviran chain and some petrol stations as well as delivery trucks). last gas bottle I bought cost I think 14€?
electricity is relatively expensive and getting moreso...

also with the gas bottles, you need ventilation as each bottle 'releases' apx 20litres of water into the atmosphere,
as BobL says depends what sort of home

Hi thanks for your response. would gas central heating be expensive to install and to use? How about radiators, are they economical?

I have always liked them but they are best to use in one or two rooms to keep the temps from dropping too far. They will not heat a space quickly, particularly if it's a large one. And if you are using them all over the house I think it would be quite expensive.

I have been told by my builder that has heaters and oil radiators have the same running costs.
