I suppose we can only go on our own experience, and ours with Maria, Esther and Nicoletta at Mundi Abogados (http://www.mundiabogados.com/) was entirely positive. They speak excellent English and are very friendly and efficient, I didn't need to chase them at all. They were handling the purchase of our property and as part of this also arranged the NIE for my wife and I. But they can just do the NIE work on its own if that's all you want. I think they have a gestor on the staff who does the legwork. The 2 NIEs cost €300 - that's the standard fee - and they took about 5 weeks to come through. You will have to pay a fee on top to the abogados for doing the work but I can't tell you how much that would be as our fees covered all the work they did. I'm sure others here will have other suggestions and it's worth getting a few quotes. You might find that a gestor will charge a lower fee than the abogados but I don't have details of any as I haven't so far needed one.

We used the people in the Mojacar commercial centre upstairs but we have just bought an apartment and used Angela Morales between the Koi cafe and 353 cafe. They speak excellant English and will give you details of prices. The timescale is the same wherever you go as it is determined by Almeria office. Good luck and welcome to Spain!

Hi we used Carmen Gurrea at Mojacar, we went with her to Almeria early morning and we had them by lunchtime.
Good luck,

Mandy and husband chris of Camconcepts in Huercal Overa helped us, my partner especially to buy her villa and get her NIE and latterly our Residencia. The NIE was obtained thru partner giving Power of Attorney, the Residencia involved going to the foreigners office together in Almeria.
Residencia gets you a defacto NIE number which helps with follow on stuff like doctors, medical cards etc etc.
Bottom line is it's your choice, you could go out as far as La Foquia and have CAT Services do it for you and pop in to The Chippy and enjoy the best fish n chips in the area lol.
Best of and welcome to the area.

Have you got contact details for Carmen Gurrea please?
Hi there her details are
Carmen Guerra Legal & Financial,
Centro Commercial Montemar 04638
Mojacar Playa
Phone no 0034 950 472 504
I also used Mundi and found them good. But I was not in a hurry.
I believe that it's not complicated. You could just use an interpreter. If you are not yet in Spain try the Spanish Embassy.

Do I need a NIE number to buy a car? I am coming over to a rented apartment in September to use as a base to look for a home to retire to.
