Hi there!

We are moving into Turre in April and would like to introduce ourselves. My name is Veronica and my husband is Ivor. We are both retired and have moved to Spain from West Sussex. My son, Anthony has relocated with us and hopes to start a new and better life here rather than stay in London.

We have a little dog, Maisie and an old cat of 13 yrs, Tigger and currently rent a villa in Arboleas until the relocation to our new villa.

Before we came to Spain I was involved in rescue charities and because of my love of animals have studied canine behaviour and dog training. When we have settled I would like to continue with rescues in the area and would welcome any ideas as to how to help.

Hope to hear back from anyone in Turre!

Veronica

Hi Veronica.  We live in a villa in Agua Nueva part of Turre.  By now you may have found 'Paws' charity shop down on Mojacar playa or they also have a shop on the parade at Bouganvillas.  If not, check them out.  The one down on the playa is in the little car park up from the Caja Mar and Sabadell banks and is in the far corner.  If you pick up a copy of the 'Forum' mini magazine it usually has contacts and adverts in that may also include what you are looking for.  We like it around here.  It's nice and quiet (except for Fiesta times that is) and everyone seems friendly but some are a bit reserved.  I hope you also managed to get sorted with your bed situation and now have your own furniture etc with you.  Good wishes for your stay in this area.  My husband and I are also retired and have lived here for just over a year although we have been in the area for 10 years now for holidays until we retired.

Hi there, thank you so much for your nice, friendly message. We think we will be happy here once we get things sorted out but there is a lot to contend with currently. The previous owners left everywhere dirty and we cleaned the oven 6 times before we moved in with different sprays just to remove grease and baked on grime! Honestly, it seemed as though they had an indoor bbq in the oven!

Anyway, enough of all that because it would sound too negative. Suffice to say there is still a lot of hard work to come!

I am very interested in Paws charity as I was involved in their namesake in UK oddly enough. Once we have settled in properly I intend to contact them for volunteering as I know they are desperate for helpers.

We must wait until the second week of this month before our effects arrive from Malaga but until then we can sleep in beds loaned to us by a secondhand shop.

I expect most of us anticipate the other person making the first attempt at conversation and not just a wave of the hand. Maybe I will break the mould and knock on a few doors when I feel happy that my home is inviting.

We have come from Worthing, West Sussex and we also have my son with us who is in his 40's and was living in London. He didn't have much of a life there so wants to try and build a life her instead. He is not married and looks forward to seeing a bit of life in Mojacar after spending months with us in a rental villa in Arboleas.

I do hope our paths will cross so we can meet and chat and exchange niceties.

Best regards to you

HI there Veronica,

I will send you a private message with the contact details of some friends of mine based in Albox that are heavily involved with the rescue and care services for Dogs in the region.

Welcome and good luck.

Hi Haylee, thank you for your reply. We are fully settled now after much improvements inside the villa to make it more comfortable.

Our first issue was with the water but that has now been resolved with a pump.

As this is our final move we are looking forward to  our years here i the sun. I have to say though that today was a bit much when the temperatures reached 100degs. Phew! Our little dog couldn't even step outside on the hot tiles! Am I complaining? Not a bit of it lol!

Have you a family here Haylee?

Kind regards

Veronica

Hi Verónica,

How was your weekend?

Yeah, it has been a tad warm haha. I´ve lived here for 10 years and i still haven´t got used to the heat! my parents live in vera and my brother lives in Vera Playa, so you could say its like home now hahah.

What breed of dog do you have? I love dogs :)

Have a good day

Haylee

Hi, might I suggest you throw youre doors open and send invites to drinks and nibbles for youre neighbours ?  Partner and myself did that, its a nice way without going knocking on peoples doors to get to know people, we chat quite often with passers by over the garden gate as it were lol.

We live a bit further inland in Urcal, lovely little village, shop, school, doctors, bar etc, love the peace and tranquility especially now we have flyfrees.

Lovely part of the world not just for yourselves but for visiting friends and family, we have a pool and only just recently stopped using it but otherwise who could complain about these temperatures in mid October ? Lol.

Sit back and enjoy.

Picked up on your comment "flyfrees", how much of a problem are they, and are they at particular times of the year. Property we are purchasing has outside BBQ within screened area, but we prefer to be outside if possible.

Hi.

No matter who you talk to, it would seem that flies and wasps have been particularly bad this summer/this year, much more than other years.

My partner had a 65th birthday party in mid/late July that was completely ruined by flies and wasps, we think more because we put food and drink out from mid afternoon onwards, a couple nearby held a get to know the neighbours bash but didnt start cooking till about 9.30, hardly any pests about and a more enjoyable time.

We live inland in a village called Urcal where in the past there were quite a few pig farms, nowadays that number has dwindled to one, but there are still flies and right now hardly any wasps. Partner decided to have her pool and patio covered with an enclosure as well as the front entrance patio covered in, following her 65th and we enjoy being in the front in an evening as the sun goes round back.

as well as meals out back from both kitchen and bbq.

Also being able to bbq and swim now is much more pleasurable. We still get the occasional fly that kind of walks in from say hanging out washing etc but a fly swatter or the excellent double action rapid kill fly spray they have at the asia shops does the trick, they do actually drop dead as soon as they get sprayed lol.

Long answer short, if you enjoy being outside, cooking after what you'd call in the UK after tea time, you wont have too much to worry about, as the season gets more into winter even less.

By next summer hopefully there wont be anywhere near the number there were or have been this year.

My partner is on record as saying the rear enclosure/flyscreen is worth every penny spent and is looking forward to next summer already lol.

Btw it's peeing down with thunder and lightning here right now lol, tail end of whats hit the UK and Europe over the last couple of days.

Hope that helps,
