I am a non resident owner of a UK matriculated car on Spanish plates. I would be grateful for advice on how I set up an annual direct debit to pay my car tax from 2020. I think I need to go to the Turre Town Hall but what documents do I need please? Thank you

When you next receive your tax documents, attached is a direct debit mandate. Fill that out and take it to the bank when you next pay (between April and June I think it is)
Thereafter car tax will be debited directly from your account
Thank you. All I got tax wise from the matriculation company was a receipt from the tax authority in Almeria : as it was an import I don't think there was a direct debit mandate so hence initially I thought the town hall??

As I found out, they will only deal with car tax between a certain period. The company that matriculated your car paid the years tax, so yes, all you will have gotten is the receipt. NEXT year though, you’ll receive an envelope with car tax details and it will include the direct debit mandate.
Unless you speak very good Spanish, don’t even bother trying to argue this one with Ayuntamiento .... they are very .... set. You can go and ask them if you can have a direct debit mandate, but I’m willing to bet they’ll tell you to wait until next year when the documents arrive and a mandate will be in that.
