Just an initial enquiry. It is likely that I will be making an offer on a property tomorrow with a view to seeing my lawyer on Friday to get the ball rolling as it were. So, I am in her office and have to pay the 3000 euro deposit. My first thoughts are that I use my UK debit card (as they are usable in any EU country). Does anyone know if this is possible please? Thank you.

Hi,

How interesting.

We pay our ordinary day to day expenses on our Lloyds DC and also Nordic monthly but obviously not to that amount.

Does the Solicitor not know or your Card Company?

Hope it all works out & do let us all know.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra

Hi

I would have thought payment is possible but, First I would check with your Uk bank as it’s an overseas transaction, and a large amount. The second point is to check the charges you would incur as a result.

My view would be to open an account with a money transfer service as this is likely to be the most preferred option, as the rates etc would be more beneficial.

Good luck

Hi

I paid three months rent with my Halifax debit card.  There was no problem at all.  I paid it at an estate office in Spain.  I shall be paying a further 3 months rent in the next couple of weeks with the same card.

Hi

It depends how concious of cost you are. I,m sure youll find direct payment by debit or credit card whilst acceptable with banks approval, will be more expensive than using currency company. I have just transferred funds for day to day living from uk to spanish account at 1.152 euro to pond, inclusive of all charges with HiFX. When you set up account with currency company you specify account to be credited on each transfer, so payment to estate agent or solicitor in Spain is easy.

Get a Revolut account and do it through that.  Interbank exchange rate and no fees.

There are limits with the free offer, quite generous if your just using it as a mechanism to transfer money.  They have other options for £6 a month you get limits removed.  So if you where using it as your only bank that might ber a better option.

It is an online account only.
