Hi

My name is Janet and recently moved to Los Gallardos. I am trying to sort out my medical position and have a temporary med number for 3 months . I am a retired Civil servant aged 63 and believe the rules were as a civil servant whose working age is to 60 (or was when I retired) I am entitled to an S1 despite not being in receipt of a Gov pension yet till 66.

They told me very quickly I am not.Am I wrong ? Have the rules changed ?  wondered if there were any retired Civil Servants out there that may be able to help . Otherwise I need private insurance to enable me to obtain Residentia

Hi Janet. I’m a retired local govt officer, 68. Whilst you can take early retirement from local govt and from central govt the S1 pensioner health certificate applies only to the state pension qualification. Hence unless you are getting a state pension (or are a spouse of someone working in the U.K.) I don’t think you can get it until then.

But rather than private health cover you may want to go on the Convenio Especial for a year. That may be cheaper.

Hi again Janet

Yes, Convenio Especial is accepted for the purpose of residencia. But you need to have secured it before your October appointment and take documentary evidence of that health cover with you. If in any doubt, just ensure you have cover for one year and sort something cheaper later -?that’s just my advice.

Best wishes

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks again. I have looked it up and according to the CAB advice ,although its possible, it may well be refused. So with possible brexit in mind i agree to get private in any event to be safe. I already have a quote from Taylormade and will look around more in the next few days .I intend that good old Boris will not put me off !! Its called tenacity !!

Regards

Janet

I have just been advised that you would need to have lived here for a year before you can get Convenio Especial.

Welcome Janet

Reading your posts, I would recommend contacting an english speaking spanish solicitor to arrange everything for you.  Yes, it will cost you but you will have peace of mind that everything is correct as it is very confusing.

Best wishes to your new life in Los Gallardos

Hello to you.  Just to update you.  You can only obtain a S1 form from the UK 1 month before you move to Spain. If you are in Spain now then you can phone than and request the form.   I suggest you talk to

CATS Services  Speak to Kate.

We used a gestor rather than an abogado to obtain residency. She drove us to the appointment in Almeria City, she knew the office staff there, she organised the translations of documents that were required. Swift and efficient.
