Hi Again,

I am a little confused by the two numbers over my front door in Tabernas, those being 4 & 8. I believe the Catastral shows it as 4 and all the services docs, Basura, Agua, IBI etc have 4 on them. Except for  the Electricity contract my Abogado sent me says 8 on it. I have emailed a query back to them but the responses take ages. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I return to the UK in a week and if the Electricity detail is wrong I don’t want the supply to get cut-off while I am away. I hope this all makes sense 🤔

Thanks All,

Alan D

check with the townhall because sometimes they renumber the properties

For electricity, the supply address is often a little different to the Catastral address.  From what I can understand the supply address is the position of the meter / supply box.

Are you in a stand-alone property? i.e. not in a block / urbanización?

Hi,

I am on a corner plot comprising 6 properties in a typical Calle in the town of Tabernas

Ok - I was wondering if in typical fashion the first number referred to the plot, the second your actual house.  Do other houses on the plot have a similar numbering, or is it only yours?

It looks like most of the calles I have walked along are numbered in a similar manner 🤔

when we moved into our villa it was numbered 4 the plot number and then the townhall reversed the road numbering and we became number 12 instead.

It could well be then that 8 references the plot, 4 your actual house.  It would explain why "8" is on the electricity as there would likely be a common distribution point for the houses on that plot, ergo Supply address is "8".

That, though, is just a flat-out guess :-D

Welcome to the confusion that is Spain!  My house was renumbered many years ago and put on a street invented by the Ayuntamiento which doesn’t exist - not even a road sign.  Unfortunately  the street has a similar name to another nearby area - Calle Plaza instead of Plaza - and even today delivery men and the postman frequently get it wrong. I think you should make sure you get to know the people living in the house originally numbered 8 so they can keep an eye out for stuff which should be coming to you.  I just hope the other house is  not a holiday let as has happened to me, meaning that on one occasion I went without any postal delivery for 6 months!

The plot and 'door' number idea is good... but this is Spain and there may be some other reason completely :)

When I bought a house that had to be re-registered I was told the plot number with greater emphasis than the door number (the house had existed for decades but had three different numbers). I was then, before I could ask the question, told I could choose the door number! :) It had to be between eight and twenty-two because they were the houses on either side. I chose number ten because it was sensible and the UK Govt in Downing street was in a state of flux... still is really! :) The street was named after Napoleon to add more politics. :)

What happened next was a combination of utilities would have different numbers, like yours, then the council would have their own too....

The plot numbers are available on a website for what passes as a 'Land Registry' site and can be checked there. You would also be able to see what other plot numbers exist and do a little detective work yourself. I am sorry I don't have the site address to hand.

Finally, ask the postman because he will know you personally and even if the numbers are wrong as above he will know your name (put something on the box?) and realise the name matches at least??

Good luck
