Hi, a bit the reverse, we were at our.Australian home when our main Spanish property was burglarized. We put someone in charge and asked Abbeygate if we could extend our absence over the 6 month allowed away from property. No problem.

So your first port of call should be the Insurance Company Customer Service or, as is more likely here, the antiquated Broker.

Just hope you are not with Allianz, Almerimar Insurance or a Company out of Alicante.

May have to pay an additional premium.

Just a question, would they necessarily know that you had overstayed?

Best Wishes,

Bob and Sandra

Spanish Insurance Companies we have found are worse than anything in UK, INDIA  or Australia. We are currently in dispute with Allianz and after 11'years first property claim after the December Inundation. Have actually found them to be discriminatory in respect of Brits and was actually told by their Customer Services I should speak Spanish. Have already changed apartment to Liberty Seguros and cottage and Motorhome will follow. Broker has also been rubbish. Abbeygate were brilliant when we had the burglary but then imposed ridiculous conditions and over priced themselves.

As ex Army, more problems here than anywhere in world, including Arab countries.

Every Best Wish,

Bob and Sandra

Hi

Not sure if I understand this correctly but holiday home insurance is just that and you can generally stay there as long as you like each time, the length of stay in the home should not make any difference as, by the fact it's holiday home insurance ,means you just come and go more often than normal house insurance (which often has a stipulation as to how long the property is left empty) -

We are with Intasure who are an online holiday home insurance and are based in London but insure all holiday homes anywhere. Obviously they speak English so no problem with that.

The only insurance I've found to have a time limit to stays is Annual Travel Insurance. Ours says 31 days at a time which is all we need and only stay up to that limit. However, with travel insurance I expect you can pay extra for longer limits.

I'm sorry if I'm confused with what you mean but that's how it reads to me.

Well done Jan. Didn't pick up on that. We were with Intasure years ago, never a claim. Then they change Contents to max £25K so we move to Abbeygate. 6 weeks later we are in Oz & 62,000€ burglary.

Funny how things work out.

Have a good week,

Bob and Sandra

We purposely don't have much value in contents of our holiday home so we don't need high value insurance. Intasure insurance suits us as it covers us for as much and more than we would ever claim,  as our holiday home is as comfortable as we need it with basic contents and no valuable items as we knew it would be left vacant quite often.
