Hello, we have owned a small house in Somontin for nearly three years now but due to work and the COVID situation have not been out there for 18 months. I'm coming out for 4 nights next week and wondered if there's anyone local who would fancy meeting up for a coffee/beer to give me the benefit of their local knowledge. I'm also looking for someone who perhaps would be a key holder and keep an eye on our house once every month or so when we can't get out.

Thanks, Peter.

Hi Peter, just writing to suggest that you might want to contact Steve (Steveh2161 on the thread 'hi Somontin') in case he's free to meet up with you this week.  I was lucky enough to meet him (and his partner Annie and their lovely dog Maisie) by chance last July (at the cafe El Minero, by the town hall) just after I'd agreed to buy my house there.

On my next visit I then bumped into them again, along with some other British couples, at the local bar (down the road from the square) and we had a great time meeting everyone and finding out so much info.  Shame there's not a holiday when you're there as that's when they're all more likely to be in the bar (or Friday evenings, maybe Sunday afternoons).

My own situation is complicated.  Like you, I wasn't able to come over for months earlier this year and just when my residencia application was finally approved my husband had a stroke, so I'm stuck in the UK for the moment and can't meet up (not that I'd necessarily be able to help - there's so much that one needs to know!).  I just didn't want you to think that no-one was responding.

But Steve and Annie are a lovely couple, very friendly and very helpful (as are the other Brits but I don't think any of them are on this site apart from Steve).

Good luck and possibly see you around in a few months when my situation here has cleared up a bit. Best wishes.  Marina
