Hi, my wife and I are both type 2 diabetics. I am on Insulin and my wife is diet controlled. As we are moving to Seron in December this year we would like to know what the care and clinics are like and is it expensive to get Insulin and other Diabetic medication?

Thanks in advance

Karl

Hi Karl. My partner is a type 1 diabetic. Insulin is approx. €240 per month dependant on how much you use, velmetia is approx. €140, insulin testing strips are about €60for a packet of 50, needles €25 approx for 100. We joined the Convenio Especiale after 1 year of getting our residentia. In order to get your residencia you must have private health insurance, all contracts lasting for minimum 1 year. We pay €60 per month each for full medical cover/hospitalisation etc BUT must pay the full price of any medication. This has recently changed last month in which Madrid has declared that all Healthcare for all will be free. Andalucia is the first province to introduce it and we are going through the process of getting our new SIP cards (your medical cards). All in all we will save approx just over €5000 per annum between us. Not sure how long you have to be a resident until you get free healthcare, sorry do not know this. If you find a gestor to give you all the information it will help. We use CAT Services in Alfoquia (sorry about spelling but it is near Zurgena). They are absolutely excellent. It is only costing us €20 each for them to do all the process, visits etc to organise. This charge is subsidised by Zurgena so do not know if this is the way elsewhere. Free healthcare for all is such a progression.....  Would assume that Brexit will have little if no effect on this as has already been agreed in the Brexit agreements thus far. Hope some of this helps.  Beauly
