This situation is not unusual in Spain. It may cost you a few bob extra though.

My advice would be to revoke power of attorney and wait until you can be more in co trol!! It will for sure cost you more having relinquished all control.

Good luck !

Hi

We are in the process of buying a property in El Contador. We gave our lawyer power of attorney and have found it very useful. Without it you could possibly risk losing your property, if for example, you need to be there to sign something and can’t fly out.

The lawyers are controlled out there as they are here so you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

The power of attorney allows your lawyer to carry our minor transactions on your behalf such as your NIE etc and even pay your speeding fines for you!

Hope your purchase goes well.

We set up poa for house purchase before we left spain in march, so pleased we did, we have a fixed price from the solicitor, they will, once lock down is over, open bank account, set up utilities for the property, get NIE, and complete the purchase for us. You can verify their credentials, the same as you can English solicitors. They have been able to do a fair bit by email to keep the purchase moving too.

Yes, we have a fixed price. Makes it so much easier than having to fly backwards and forwards, we can also sign documents electronically, so speeding things up.

Hi.

We gave POA to our lawyer. It was the best move we made as we were in the UK.

Organised everything for us. Bank account, utilities, NIE.

So a thumbs up from us.

Hi

We gave and still have in position POA in Spain, originally for house purchase as we were not available for signing. Worked very well, they set up all documentation, services transfers and bank accounts, which were immeadiately transfered to us on arrival in Spain. They are also a point of contact for the bank if our spanish funds drop below a level to make standing orders etc. We pay them for additional services as required through the year, which I consider a fair fee for having our backs when required. Can pm details if required, we are near Huercal Overa.
