Hi all, my name is Ursula and im in the cold UK, ive been looking to buy a small holiday home in Spain for years, i have s very small budget, so for the last 9 monthd have looked at wrecks, cave houses you name it.. Anything 25k and under, ivd had the chancd to buy town houses jn jaen.. (too far).. I wanted olvera and pruna but with fees was over budget, ive now seen a town bouse in seron and in my budget,  husband says its miles from anywhere and i dont want to drive so i keep looking at places with bus routes etc... But i dont want tourism i want real spain, i want a quaint white village to just visit and chill and read and have a view... Could seron be it? Any advice good or bad is extremely valuable

Many thanks

Ursula

Hi Ursula,

Seron can be cold in the winter, and even get snow. For example, we live in San Juan de los Terreros, our daytime temperature at the moment is 18, dropping to only 10 degrees tonight, in Seron it's 16 dropping to 1 degree.

My advice is get yourself over for a fortnight with a car. If you speak Spanish go into the bars along the coast in Almeria. I bet you get a one bed apartment for 25k. Just ask the locals. If you are on a budget you don't need to have the extra expense of heating a place in low temperatures.

All the best whatever you do.

Thank you Jack, its something to bear in mind, I did ask the sellers if the house has a log burner but sadly it doesn't

Hi,

I wouldn't be too optimistic of finding a coastal property at that price although someone might be that desperate.

If we have a horrendous Brexit and loose Healthcare/ EHIC/ SI/2 then I foresee a mass exodus of.pensioners and the property market sliding due to a glut of properties.

It's an ill wind,!!!!!!!

The further you go inland the colder it gets in winter and the previous poster is spot on about Seron. Think you would need more than a wood burner.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra

Hi, I live in Seron and it can be very cold when the sun goes down until about mid day but it warms up nicely in the afternoon. You will need heating of some sort but we use portable gas heaters. Seron is a lovely area and very Spanish. Not many people around here speak English which if you are looking to learn the language is great because you have to make the effort. Personally, I love the area but you will need a car unless you plan to live in the town itself. The best supermarket in the area is the Mercadona in Olula Del Rio which is a 20 min drive away. The town itself has many bars and an excellent restaurant next to the town hall. There are 2 banks in the town - Unicaja and Cajamar. If you decide to buy here drop me a line and my wife and I would be glad to meet up for a coffee and a chat.

Regards

Karl

Hi Mandyanne,

What part of Seron are you? We live in the outskirts by the Rambla. We moved here just before you in December.

Regards

Karl & Helen
