Hi

Time to renew our NLV's and regarding the financial side of this we have been told that we need to open a Spanish bank account to satisfy means of support as currently all our income is paid into our UK bank and our savings are also in UK banks which have been told are not accepted as proof of means of financial support. I understand the idea that it shows we have integrated into the Spanish way of life. Any advice on this would be much apreciated

TIA

It would certainly help. I know Almeria foreigners office are pretty keen to see evidence  that the person is actually really wanting to be a resident and not just trying to overcome the 90 day rule. So a Spanish bank account showing, bills shopping and other payments will help. When we renewed our resident card 2 years ago to get our 10 year permanent TIE, they went through our passports thoroughly to check time out of Spain, for example. We were ok, as we’d only been out of Spain for 14 days in 5 years.

if you are getting UK state pensions and have them paid directly into a spanish bank you get a better rate of exchange and a regular income every 4 weeks to show.  Cajamar bank also offer a bonus interest if you pay the pensions into an account with them.

The one thing that never seems to get mentioned on here when people ask for advice re money/bank accounts, is that the Spanish Government have access to your bank account and can remove your money without notice.  I have experience of this they still owe me 800euros from 8 years ago, it was their mistake, they admitted it, but getting the money back is like blood out of a stone.  Personally I would not be happy with putting my life savings into a Spanish account.

I agree you,  and I have been advised by my Spainish Bank Manager to never have over 2000€ in my account due to issues with local authorities and various Government departments taking money out of accounts without informing you.

He/She gave you good advice, I wish mine had.

We have just renewed our NLVs. Yr2&3. Our solicitor provided both our Spanish and UK bank statements and our Wise transfer account balance to the Foreigners bureau. She says a Spanish bank account is a must. We transfer a set ammount from the UK to the Wise account monthly, the Wise account sends a set ammount each month to our Unicaja account and all local expenditure, groceries, petrol, etc can be seen to be paid from that.

By using the Wise transfer account, we control when to concert Sterling to Euros, which means we save a fortune on fees, exchange rates and card charges. The Spanish authorities need to see you are residents and behave as such. Other things you must have are sufficient income, circa 38k euros per annum for a couple and no large debts. A padron for your Spanish residence and proof of medical insurance or an S1, registered with your local GP. They do take savings and property owned into account too.

Use a good solicitor, it will go much easier if you do.

Thanks for your reply but how do I show proof of savings which is held in a UK bank when they wont accept UK bank statements I too am not keen on putting all my savings in a Spanish bank for proof of sufficient funds to live on but what other options are there?

Cheers

We have our savings in high interest accounts in the UK and we have just opened a current account with BBVA which we have started using for our domestic spend groceries petrol ect  I'm hoping that will be enough to satisfy the requirement for the visa

Cheers

They accepted ours OK but most of it was in our Wise  Euro account. Only about 5k in the UK.

Open a Wise account, move some savings there, then move them back after submitting the forms. We did have to get our UK statements translated.
