Hello again,

I am coming to SJDLT in October and have been told I should already make my appointment as there is a long wait. Can you tell me where I would need to do this so I know which place to set up the appointment?

As an aside, will I need to hire a gestor to help me do this or do the officers generally speak English? And yes, I am already learning Spanish but an still in the early beginner level.

Thanks!

Jack

  • You would have to go to Almeria city. The paperwork can be quite complicated and I would say you would need to be very good to fluent in Spanish to get it sorted.
  • The company below are very very good, they will do everything for you ( you will have to attend the oficina de extranjeros in Almeria with a translator, but again the can sort that out for you.

  • Address: Local 11A, 1st Floor, Centro Comercial Montemar, (above post office) Mojacar Playa 04638, Almeria, Spain

Hi,You can get any Gestor or Abogado to apply and get your N.I.E with a small fee of course! Alternatively drive down the A7 ,once you have booked an appointment ,online ,easy at Almeria City Office .ok👍🏼

Thanks! I won't have a vehicle. I may well hire a gestor for the next level but understand getting the NIE is fairly simple....at least now I know where I have to go I can go online and book an appointment - if there are any available.

Thanks so much Jack. I've been looking at Citizens Advice Bureau Spain and many say getting the NIE is very simple to do, even without Spanish.  I do appreciate what you are saying though as my Spanish is minimal. Thanks for the contact info, that helps tremendously.

Much appreciated.

If you only want an NIE you can even do it in UK , check the embassy website.

However I wonder if you really mean to register as a resident ? If so that is a whole different case and I would strongly suggest professional help , there are plenty of good Gestors around the area , sorry don’t know SJDLT to suggest any local, but sure someone will know.

Good luck.

Ian, I just wrote a long response , that disappeared when I tried to post it, to thank you for the link and to tell you that yes, I will be staying longer than 30 days but think  getting a NIE will be more expedient. I will need to have a Spanish bank account before I can go through the 9- day process.....padron...or residencia - I get them mixed up.

A professional may well be the best route to go.

Thanks again.

Ruth, if I may, why are you getting a NIE? You only need one if you intend to make a major purchase, such as car etc.  If you are intending to obtain Residencia, then you should know that a NIE is assigned / issued as part of the Residencia process.  Residencia is required only if you plan to stay longer than 90 days in any 180 day period.

Please also be aware that if Brexit happens, then after that date, Residencia ceases to be what you will need, it’s a whole different ballgame then

Un saludo, Darío
