British repeat perscription

Hello,

I am in desperate need of a repeat prescription form my blood pressure and I’m not entirely sure how to go about this (first year in Spain).

I took a walk down to the medical centre today and read a notice advising that you are to be accompanied by a Spanish speaking person at all times.

Does anyone have any advice or some information on how I would go about obtaining a repeat perscription? Or would anyone who can speak Spanish kindly offer 5 mins of time to help me?

Does anyone know if I can buy my perscription online? Only seems to come up British websites and I’m unsure of the postage regulations.

Any information or help on this urgent matter would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ian Mac

You can purchase many medicines over the counter at the farmacia that would be prescription only in the UK, might be worth speaking to the farmacia, my partner gets their blood pressure tablets this way....

Hi

Previous poster is spot on. We just buy ours OTC at any local pharmacy. Take in box/ tablet bottle'/ strip, anything showing the name & dosage strength.

Agree, not sure of postage regs re meds but we are currently in UK returning mid Jan if any help.

Best Wishes,

Bob and Sandra

Hi Ian. I am on Amlodipine for similar reasons. This was only available on prescription in England but here in Spain it is available over the counter at the pharmacy. I think it’s just a couple of euros for 30 tabs. So whatever medication you are on may also be available at the pharmacy.

If not, then assuming you are registered with a local medical practice, don’t be put off by that sign saying you need someone Spanish to accompany you! As long as you have a Spanish dictionary handy (or use Google) just write out very briefly your condition and the medication you usually have. If you hand this note to Reception or the doctor i’m sure you will get help. I don’t yet speak much Spanish but was able to get a flu jab from the local practice recently. No English spoken. No assistance required.
