Hi Dario, We are currently trying to decide what part of Almeria would suit us best. We are due to move out next March. You seemed a bit unsure of the village next to the Rambla.Cuervas Del Almonzora Is there something wrong there we should no? Where do you think is good for a couple soon to be in their seventies?
Thank you

Cuevas is a lovely place, and as far as I’m aware, nothing at all wrong with it.
Being in any area here though is such a personal choice that you really need to come out, see and experience the different areas and see where suits you best - what feels “right” for you.
For example, I live just outside Vera, but work in Vera. Vera, is a lovely pueblo - for me, that is - I really love it here, but I’m sure there are many who will disagree and say their chosen areas are “better” ... and for them, their areas are better, because that is where they feel comfortable.
We have really begun to integrate here, take part in the community and involve ourselves and so for us, Vera is home; but there are I’m sure many who would not / do not find Vera to their liking and this goes to illustrate that a particular area may not suit you, despite what brochures and photos say. Like I say, you need to actually immerse yourself and just see what feels right for you

We live inland in a small village by the name of Urcal, 7 minutes from the motorway nth and south and 12 minutes from huercal overa with its still very highly rated hospital, despite recent problems having just spent almost 5 days there I can speak from very recent experience, from the facilities thru to staffing levels etc etc,
We also like Dario have good local doctors, small school, nice small but well stocked supermarket, two bars, one more of a hub than the other, featured twice on A place in the Sun with a third programme being edited as we speak.
Horses for courses as Dario says, we're roughly 40 minutes from the beaches but you need a car as theres virtually no bus services tho in huercal overa theres a hub for coach services here there and everywhere.
3 supermarkets inc Lidl, peace and tranquility and a good mix of ex pats and spanish are what stands out, partner and myself are mid to late 60's and just love it here.
Best of in youre search before you choose somewhere to settle.

OP. what do you mean by ''AND THE MOUNTAINS BELIEVE ME WILL GET ON YOUR NERVES,''?
I am researching Almeria district to re-locate. I have never been, do you mean there is endless mountains?
You had a moan, he's my moan at you. I HATE the way SOME English people talk/write in such a ship-shaddy way.
I mean your comment could mean a hundred different things.
Do you mean there all the same? There all barren? There all small?
Anyone know?

Lynn. I love your attitude. I hope to move over there also and will be by myself also.

Just a quick response to correct a couple of inaccuracies in Raygill's post: there are several nursing homes in Almeria: Pulpi and Nijar both have large nursing homes with excellent reputations and several UK residents in them and, as I write, further ones are in the process of being constructed in Mojacar and Vera. There are many alternatives to air con heating including highly efficient wood or pellet burners, neater heaters, gas or oil central heating etc. Winters can get cold as they do elsewhere in Europe but generally speaking the cold weather (felt more at night) lasts far less time here than in the UK and blue skies during the day make it far more pleasant than constant grey. Living, as opposed to holidaying, in a different country requires people to have the strength of character necessary not just to be prepared to adapt to different circumstances , but to be willing to do so and to enjoy the joys (and occasional challenges) this brings, to recognise them as life experiences and relish every moment. Viva España!
