Hi all, having done some research, hubby and I are very interested in hearing more about the area, as looking to buy, currently own a lot further down the coast and decided a quieter pace is what's needed but not to quiet! Would welcome anyone's opinions, thoughts as to places to eat, bank, shops, prices, healthcare etc. Many thanks 😊

Hi,

We live on Aguilon golf and love it there.

There is a lot going on during the summer months in SJDLT and in Aguilas the whole year.

Good restaurants and nice market for all your veg and fruit.

Hope this is helpful

About 8-10 restaurants open all year as well as a lot of chiringquitos who do food along the prom.   Good range of restaurants from traditional spanish to Chinese and a great bar doing belgian beers and food.  As well as steak restaurant.   There is also a pub - the aguilon - doing live music on the weekend, and showing sports.  There is a fairly large market on a Sunday for both food and  clothing.  We stay in almadraba which is about 15 min walk to the village and its perfect...easy enough to get to the village but quiet area and a large pool.  No bank but an atm next to the council office which let's you pay all your taxes and bills etc.  A medical center and pharmacy, as well as a couple of supermarkets and chinese markets.  Three 3 hairdressers for some reason 😀 We love the area and whilst it's quiet out of season it does get busy during spanish holidays..a very spanish village, with a great mix of northern Europeans and brits.    Give me a shout if you want any more info.

We have lived in SJDLT for 3 years now having owned a holiday apartment first for 7 years. We absolutely love our life here even in the winter months, there are lovely restaurants and bars, a couple of supermarkets, an ATM and a weekly market on Sundays. Lots of lovely beaches and chiringuitos too. Aguilas is only a 10/15 minute drive away and has loads of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets etc. we feel very lucky living in such a fabulous area. Good luck!

Ok here is the real view of the village. There are restaurants open in summer I can think of 7. The beach bars again summertime mostly open. Someone saying they are no shops in the town there are two Chinese bazaars. In winter the bars restaurants rotate when they close and the ATM occasionally works, make sure you go Friday. In winter it can resemble the Village of the dead I would recommend Aguilas if you want something with a bit more life.

I would tend to agree with "The 1" post .  I do not live or have a property in SJLT but go there regularly on day trips from our base in Mojacar mainly for the safe sandy and shallow beaches.  Its a beautiful coastal area and would undoubtefdly suit anyone looking for tranquility in winter with easy driving access to Aguilas with all the conveniences of a large busy town.  We have thought about moving there but not just yet due to the lack of public transport especially to/from the airports. You will be totally reliant on a car at least until better transport and connectivity options are in place. The Chiringuitos are very nice but for an occasional visitor , the opening times are unpredictable. Prices also somewhat higher due to lack of competition.

Don't forget Mar de Pulpi, just a few minutes up the road.  Very good restaurants, beautiful views.  There is a bus once a day which goes as far as Carbonaras and to Almeria in the other direction with lots of stops on the way.  Fabulous place to live. Aguilas is a short drive away and all the main shops in Lorca are an easy 30 minute drive away.

There is a lot more to the town if you take a closer look that just the bars and the beach.

Plenty going on, shops, bars and restaurants. Transport is available, if you get organised.

Not sure about being the place of death in the winter.  There are 1000s of full time residents in the village all year round. School is bursting at the seams.

Fabulous place to live with more commercial places and services popping up over the next months.
