Maybe a silly question. I know you can't drink the tap water but is it alright for pets to drink or is it best for them to drink the bottled water?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Regards, David.

Hi,

Agreed, we never drink the tap water in Mojacar but use fuente water from Puerto Lumbreras, our other Spanish home. However, animals aren't stupid & know if water is contaminated.

Is there a fuente.near you?

Obviously a pet lover; good for you.

Bob has use of what he calls "Fuente" which in other terms is called non-potable which in another term is agricultural, ie farm animals, horses etc, no use for humans even boiled, if your still unsure then give your pets bottled but keep it in the shade as in the current heat water warms up quickly.

FUENTE's as Bob mentions are similar to a wall mounted fountain which should still be signed as non-potable.

Here in Urcal we have at least two.

Good morning BobL and Chevyrecycler34,

Thanks for your replies which I will take on board. Not out yet In SJDLT - we hope to move out there by September/October. We have two miniature schnauzers which are coming with us. Hence the request for info.

Regards, David.

Hi David, there is some confusion re the Fuentes. Our village water is not drinkable by humans but all our dogs are perfectly healthy on it. We get all our drinking water from the Fuente in Mojacar, have been getting it for nearly 3 years now and it is perfectly fine to drink straight from the Fuente. We go through around 5/6 litres a day and neither of us have had any adverse reaction. You quite often see Spanish people filling bottles there and have a drink whilst they are there, especially in this weather so from our point of view this particular Fuente is perfectly safe.

Good luck when you move over,

Tony.

Good to know Tony and thanks for that.

I mentioned the non-potable sign on our fuentes as back in the UK and the USA, non-potable is grey water and not fit for human consumption.

I think we've seen fountains here and there on our limited travels, you see them in lots of places in Oz.

We have been drinking the tap water for years now, it’s cleaner than U.K. water

Hi, curious as to whether the free tap/fuente has a "non potable" sign on it or if the water at the fuente in Mojacar is town supplied and filtered fit to drink as I mentioned we've found in Oz where you can fill your own bottles.

Hi, as far as we know there are no signs about the water from Mojacar. We know a few other people who get their water their, all drink it without boiling it so as far as we are aware, it is proper spring water from the mountains. This has been running for hundreds of years as there are stones there where ladies have done their laundry and the stones are worn away.
