Hi,

Looking to buy a property soon in or around San Juan De los Terreros, Los Lobos, Vera possibly. Anyone have a view on which bank to open an account with? Cajamar has been suggested coz they seem to have lots of branches everywhere more so than some of the others. Others have warned about excessive charges with some banks. Any personal experience of good (or not so good) ones.?

Hi Bob and Sandra,

Thanks for your reply. Funnily enough I have got a Euro account with Barclays here in UK, from when I owned a property in Cyprus. I just assumed I had to open a Spanish one for the initial property purchase.

Hi,

If you are buying from a Brit.then 10% in euros via the Estate Agent to secure the property but then consider a CHAPS transfer in ££ UK BANK to UK BANK. NO FEES, NO CONVERSION.

We did this when we purchased apt in Mojacar. Obviously Solicitor fees, etc have to be in euros.

We have now moved most payments offshore but can't manage Galasa, IBI, Road Tax. We moved electric to Nordic as they accept Lloyds euro card. Pay other fees in cash.

Best Wishes,

Bob and Sandra

Thank you for the tips; super useful. My money is already in Euros in the UK Euros account from the sale of the Cyprus property, but as you say, its just about IBI etc.
