Was admitted to Hospital De Poniente last week, the first thing they gave me was Nolotil, when I told them it can be fatal to Northern Europeans the Doctor told me he had never heard that before, and gave me a different painkiller.

Just thought I would make you aware if you do end up in hospital to check  they dont give you Nolotil.

Thanks Tony. I'm shocked that the doctor was unaware of this. The genetic risks that northern Europeans carry if taking this painkiller has been fairly widely publicised on TV and social media.

This drug is called metamizol in Spain. I was given it by my doctor a few years ago and it gave me leukopenia (low white blood cells). The specialist at the hospital was horrified also.  I was lucky I was seen to before it got worse.  I didn't know the name nolotil until just recently . Hope you are soon better.

Just to add to this discussion, after a very recent blood test, the results of which I studied before giving to my doctor, it was suggested that I be given a course of Metamizol, which I researched on google. I was alarmed  to see it was Nolotil under a different name, fortunately the doctor did not prescribe..

As I had only become aware of this drug and it's effects, by pure chance I was forewarned.

So please be aware and treat all prescription drugs with utmost caution, do your research and ask questions. I'm sure the lady who developed  'leukopenia' would agree. I hope Lynn77 that you are fully recovered?
