We are an Irish couple interested in initially renting in Spain to see if we'd  like to live there for extended periods. However , it seems that flights to the south-east coast of Spain (  Costa Almeria ) are very limited outside of the main Summer season. We can access very regular flights ex Cork to Malaga all year round , so while we'd  rather go to Costa Almeria , it's the regular accessibility from Ireland that is our worry. If you are Irish and have any experience / recommendations regarding this, we'd  be most grateful . Many thanks.

I'm not Irish but I hope that doesn't totally disqualify me from offering an opinion. For direct flights from Cork you really are limited to Malaga followed by a 3 hour drive. Even Alicante isn't do-able direct during the winter let alone Murcia or Almeria. If it was me I would fly Cork to London Gatwick in the afternoon, overnight in the Premier Inn at the North Terminal (very good) and then fly to Almeria or Murcia first thing the next day - the day will determine which airport is served. That's what we do from Inverness.

Rob you are so kind , maybe not Irish hahaha, but kind nonetheless. Really appreciate you replying so promptly and your very welcome advice 're flights . It is a bit of a bummer living in Ireland when it comes to flights - moreover living in Cork. Destinations ex Dublin are much more to choose from. Cork Airport has extremely limited choices !! However , Malaga is the next best choice for us and so we are seriously considering this with a view of renting on the Costa Tropical,  maybe somewhere like Salobrena, about a 90 min coastal bus trip ftom Malaga. Seems by far the better option now I think. Thanks again Rob and a very Happy New Year to you from us in Cork, Ireland.

Hiya,

We're an Irish couple too and have a holiday home here for the past twenty years. As you rightly say flights to Almeria only operate from late March/early April to early November.  Malaga is a long way from this area, but why not use Alicante, which is well served, from Dublin and Cork by both Ryanair and Aer Lingus.

Your alternative is Murcia, San Javier, by Ryanair all year and one hour south of Alicante, so nearer to Mojacar, Almeria etc.

Best of luck with the plans.

Hi

I have been travelling to Almeria a lot over the past years.  I either go from Gatwick where I book into an airport hotel prior to flying out to Almeria the following morning with EasyJet or from Dublin to Almeria with Ryanair - however the Ryanair Dublin flights to Almeria only operated from around end of April to October.

Thank you both Barbara and Kathy, very much appreciate your replies. We are very much into easy access , so we're now thinking of Eastern Costa del Sol , the Costa Tropical , 90mins from Malaga on a coastal busride. With three adult children plus their partners and hopefully grandchildren in future years, it will be easier and more practical for us all to be able to fly out of Cork. We do not like west of Malaga and all the high-rise Apartment blocks, much too crowded and touristy. Thinking Costa Tropical has more choices 're Spanish  working towns.

Maybe a bit off topic but I am planning on visiting a town call Almunecar in the Costa Tropical 2018. I live in the north of Ireland so there are lots of flights from Belfast direct to Malaga - a lot more accessible.
