Just one more question to ask to provide much appreciated advice, Is it permissible to stay at a hotel overnight en-route from Sorbas to the Santander ferry port? I currently have a booking at a hotel in the Burgos area for the 18th of December.

I would say you’d have to, to comply with curfew requirements

Yes. You are allowed to travel by road (directly) from the airport to your Sorbas home. Carry your residence evidence with you!

Hi everyone. It is well worth signing up for the UK government updates. They email you when any rules change as of today 30th Dec they were waiting clarification from Spain for those who have a residencia application in the system but not yet granted to allow travel to their permanent homes.

Don't hold your breath - I've been waiting a year and they announced 4000 would be sorted in the next 8 weeks online but it appears I'm not one of them - There are 24000 current applications. I looked at the page below and it says
'Character
You must be ‘of good character.’ To prove this, you must ask the Garda Síochána for a report about your background.'
I never had to do that so it must be new - I think I had to agree to a Garda Check

You have to complete the form below and send them all the documentation they require. I had to go to the solicitors to get a certified copy of a number of documents, Birth Cert, Wedding Cert etc. They also require all your old passports and your current one.

You must also include the initial fee - They will reply to you if they need additional documents. The three referees I gave them have not been contacted but I have been told my application has gone to the Minister for Decision (that was in September) so I don't think they will be contacted.
If I am accepted there is another form that requires certifying by a solicitor and a fee of about €1000 but I'm not at that stage. They don't contact you and seem to take exception if you contact them.
It says most applications take two year but some are quicker if no complications - I thought I fell into that 25 years resident at same address/married to Irish passport holder/son is Irish Passport Holder but I have waited a year

Jimh thanks very much for your reply most helpful I would have thought that living, working, paying taxes etc in Ireland for the past 22 years I would have been eligible for a passport without all the hassle but it is what it is thanks again for your kind advice

Wife was born in London and had never been to Ireland till we moved here but because her Father was Irish she got hers in no time. I was 25 Year a Public Servant and paid a lot of tax in my time but it didn't speed up my process
