Hi, I am wondering how easy it will going to Almeria if I got  house in Spain. Does anyone knows what are the rules to get into Spain as no resident but having a house in Spain? Do I need to show any Special letter or something. Thank you.

Simple answer. You can’t. If you are not a resident, you are not permitted to travel across regional boundaries.  You can chance it, but you’re risking a fine and being turned back. A very very large fine.

As of 1/1/21, when transition ends, UK becomes a Third Country Nation and under current EU Covid regulations, British nationals who are not resident of an EU country will not be permitted entry at the EU border.

Thank you for your reply. But I assume as non resident, then  I should get Visa or an ETIAS authorisation. Do no know something about it?

ETIAS only comes in in 2023, there is no visa available that allows a TCN from a high risk country to cross into EU, only diplomats, returning residents, cross border workers and those with immediate and pressing family reasons.  You face exactly the same situation as a US citizen now - even with property here, as TCNs, they may not at the moment enter the EU except in the circumstances listed above.  I’m afraid you’re going to have to wait until the EU relaxes Covid restrictions.

I understand now. Thank you very much for your information.

I can attest to the neccessity of a letter.  We had a friend come visit us who was a Third Country National.  we had to get a letter for them from Policia Local .... It would have been easier for them to just book themselves into a hotel!!

That was to obtain a Schengen visa, so I am not sure the letter would be needed for a TCN with visa-free travel, but I sure as hell would not like to roll THOSE dice!!...

...

As a a holder of a newly issued temporary residencia card can I travel back to my permanent Sorbas home from the UK in January? This will involve crossing provinces from Murcia to Almeria as we cannot fly into Almeria airport.

It does not mention the 'Fit To Fly' certificate that you need when entering Spain from the UK....We have Spanish residency and own a property in Almeria.....Our flight home is on the 5th of January. We have to have a Fit to Fly test less than 72 hours before we leave the UK.....The costs range from £245 each down to £109 each......Land in Spain without one and there is a huge fine!

As a returning resident, yes you can.  As NannieH points out you need a negative PCR (OR now a negative TMA) test 72 hours before you enter Spain.  The TMA test I understand is not yet widely available in UK, but has the advantage of giving results in 20 minutes instead of 48 hours.

Also be prepared for now slightly longer border delays as if you have a British passport, you will have to come through the “Non EU citizens” gate.  You need ensure your passport has a minimum 6 months validity left on it as well.

Thank you Dario for all your answers.

Now, apart from the COVID test. Let’s see the Brexit subject.

My confusion is, having a property there and having British passport,  after Brexit, do you know I have to show proof of property ownership and money availability when crossing the border?

I understand por citizen/turists out of the EU need to show address where they will stay, maybe a letter if they are staying with friends, and money for the period they will be there.

Thank you very much

Ber

I would give a cautious “yes” on that - cautious because we are headed into new territory and nobody really knows how strictly Spanish authorities will enforce requirements.

I think it would be a mistake to be blasé and think Spanish border authorities will not check and will wave you through - there will certainly now be checks for overstayers and others who have been living “under the radar” for many years.

It would be wise to have some proof of your property ownership available I think.

Thank you Dario. It make sense. I will be very well prepared once I have the chance to be able to flight there again.
