Hi Ian

We use revolut, online bank. Best rates we have found.

Hi Ian

We have found that the Halifax Clarity credit card gives near perfect exchange rates for purchases (pay it off each month tho!) With no fees, and the Nationwide Flex plus account gives good family travel insurance (which can be added to for longer stays with a phone call), European brake down cover, phone insurance and near perfect exchange rates for cash withdrawals with no fees for £13 a month, the insurance is worth that!, some cash points are free with it in Spain but you will need to hunt for them, they do tell you if they charge before completing the transaction. Also always choose Euros when prompted so that your bank does the conversion.

Hope this helps

Clif

Hi Ian,

Look up Travelwise, they are excellent, you get the full exchange rate with a minimal charge!!!

Transferwise I think you meant? They are indeed excellent, unfortunately they don’t have cashpoints so it’s always a good plan to have a Spanish bank account. Sabadell have one for non-residents but there is a charge, their Expansion account for residents is free banking. Sabadell are also part of a group of banks so you can use other cash points too: such as Unicaja.

Hi Chrisso,

Thanks for correction I did mean TransferWise, You do get the best rate for transferring euros and yes you need a Bank Account as well!

thanks for all the replies, i tried halifax clarity, it was listed as no.1 on money expert, ive been with halifax about 35 years, 2 mortgages, paid in full, 4 accounts, credit card paid in full every month, and they refused me, checked travelwise, but ended up going for starling, revolut and fairfx, so i should be well covered, thanks again ian

For big amounts I use TransferWise but if you are only here for a while then use ATM bank like Ibercaja who don't charge any comission, most of the other banks do.

I always use TravelWise.

They offer the best rates, and minimal fees.
