hi there, I'm hoping to relocate to Costa de Almeria from the UK with my husband and 2.5 year old daughter (not necessarily Roquetas - i just had to pick somewhere to post this message). We'd like to live in a coastal town/village that has plenty going on but is not over-run with tourists and high rise buildings - does that exist in this area?! We'll be looking to make a living for ourselves - perhaps by setting up a BnB, for example. I'm a copy writer so would be interested in freelance writing work too.  Any advice on how to choose the right area for us, and tips on what we need to consider, would be much appreciated. Would really love to hear from any other young families who've made the move from UK to Spain - we need to hear the good, the bad and the ugly!

There's plenty of choice for you to relocate anywhere in Costa Almeria. I'd be pushed to suggest somewhere where you should not move to. Don't discount Mojacar Playa (low rise except for two hotels 3 miles distant from each other at either end of the resort). Mojacar Playa is busy for about six weeks during July and August only.

The whole area is saturated with Beauticians, Hairdressers, Personal Trainers, Steel Fabricators, Airport-run-drivers, Artists, Entertainers etc all of which clean other peoples's apartments for a living. If you are prepared to do this you have a good chance. Some get lucky and wait on tables. We haven't won Miss World yet, none of our expats qualified for the Olympics and our Steel Fabricators somehow eke out an existence even when they are not playing in some band. If you discount Tony Christie (Is this the way to Amarillo?) our entertainers are still waiting to be discovered.

Bed & Breakfast:- Take your chances with the Beauticians etc aforementioned. But, if you reel in some other writers as customers or students, there's an opening for you and I hope you succeed and drive my post down my throat. I really do!
