Hello

My wife and I are a couple in our late fifties and planning on coming to Roquetas de Mar for the first time next June. We will most likely be staying at the Playacapricho Hotel for two weeks early to mid-June. I am just trying to get some information about the resort and things to do etc.

We like to go out for meals and a couple of drinks on an evening and Roquetas looks to have a relaxed family friendly feel to it rather than a resort/touristy feel to it, is this the case?

We like to mix our holiday between beach days and trips but as we don’t drive we will be relying on public transport and excursions. I know that there is a bus service to Almeria, but can you go further afield from Roquetas and/or Almeria?

Can you get to Tabernas by public transport or is it better to take an excursion? I have found a website for Pepe tours; does anyone know any other tour companies?  I would like to visit Mojacar, Cabo de Gata and Sierra Nevada but don’t know if I will get to them all.

I also know there is a train station at Almeria but can’t find any definite information on what places you can get to by train, can anyone help with this please?

Finally (for now at least) can anyone recommend any bike hire companies; cycling along the promenade looks like a good way to spend a day.

This is my first post and I accept some of my request may be a bit vague but I appreciate any help or advice people are willing to give.

Hi Sean, Yes Roquetas is mostly very friendly and June is usually just getting busy with lots to do and see. Pepe's tours are very good and you can get to many places with them. The bus does run from the airport to Almeria , but ask the driver to tell you when you have to get off, as You will likely have to change in Almeria. If so when You get off , you walk the same direction as the bus was going until you get to end of road. Turn to the right and go to next corner and cross over to Almeria autobus estation{ that is what it is called in Spanish}. You go up steps and a little way in it goes to a large hall. Kiosk is on the left and you will see Roquetas on the time table when you find the right one.The bus number and time will be on the ticket, usually every half hour.. You can get transport from airport to your hotel if prefrred. If just 2 of you you can get the bus, or ask for taxi. Costs less than usual taxis . My daughter gets the transport bus.but that usually takes her longer to get to me as I am near the town, and the drivers usually deliver people to the hotels first. Regards seeing places, There is a free museum with items from the area, photos showing how it was, some homemade exhibits  and private. If you want more on that let me know. The castle in Almeria is free if you take your passport to show at the entrance, you get the bus to Almeria for that and if you want more info on how to get there on foot. If you enjoy walking, you could get the Aquadulce bus to the end of it's journey, going the same direction as the Almeria bus. Go down the slope to the Aquamar hotel, there you can use the toilets, and or get a gdrink. Go to the right and down the stairs to get outside to their pool and garden area. Go along the path to back gate, and turn left along the prom, called the maritima here. Plenty of choice fpr food there at the harbour.. Well that will give you food for thought for now.

Have a great time what ever you do.

Best wishes for xmas too. Maureen

Thank you Maureen.

We hope to book today so I may be back for more info, I like to do research before my holidays so I know what's available and what there is to do. We went to Albufeira in the Algarve last year but that was a bit lively so wanting somewhere more relaxed this year. As it's so popular with Spanish families I'm looking forward to the relaxed Spanish atmosphere you get when families go out to eat and drink.

Best wishes for Xmas
