Also, does anyone know of a car hire company near Roquetas which is not based near Playa de Serena? I understand that there is only one bus a day from Roquetas to Serena and the taxi journey will cost about 15 - 20 euros. Do people consider hiring a car to be absolutely necessary for an enjoyable holiday in Roquetas?

Hi Rontree,I don't know which part of roquetas you are in but where we are in roquetas urbanisation Mediterranean ave nearly every bus will take you to almeria  bus station especially early mornings as they are dropping people at work....just ask when the bus arrives if it's going to almeria bus station and they'll either say yes or no and usually the next one along will go to the bus station...there you will see plenty of destinations you can visit all over. ie alicante, malaga or closer places but there's plenty...there's also a train station there too...some people will probably hire a car because they find it easier I've never felt the need to hire a car because I've found the buses great unlike some parts of Spain...hope that helps you a bit.x

Your information is very helpful.  Thank you very much. We are staying at the 'northern' side of the town - on Calle Olimpiadas.

“I understand that there is only one bus a day from Roquetas to Serena.”

I think the info you were given is false. Las Marinas is in close walking distance of Serena and has at least an hourly service to RdM bus station and Almeria.

I don’t know the bus service details but we live in the urbanisation off Avenida Mediterráneo, near Las Marinas and walk from here to Serena, where Eurocar hire is based. It takes about 20 mins at most.

Alternatively it’s not too far to walk along the paseo to the north part of RdM, near Gran Plaza.

Hope you find what you need.

Chris
