Since receiving my residencia January 2022, as legally obliged I have taken full ASSA medical cover. I’m also in full receipt of the UK state pension. It could be none sense but I have been told because of my age (66) I don’t need to pay for medical cover but can submit a form S1 instead. Anyone any experience of this situation? TIA, Mark

The UK ceased the use of S1 to transfer medical benefits on 31/12/21 if I recall; only those reaching retirement age and who were resident before 31/12/21 can still use S1 to transfer pension and health benefits
EDIT: I can no longer find the article(s) that dealt with the cessation of S1 after the date given and it appears this information is erroneous. Please see post further down the thread where I have given two links - one that details all the healthcare options available and the other which is step-by-step instruction on how to register an S1 online.

Give the overseas pensions agency a call. Just google for the number. They will be able to help.

Yes you can apply for your S1 if you're receiving a UK pension...but please be aware that your medical insurance cannot just be cancelled . You must give 2/3 months notice before the renewal in Jan 2024

My apologies to all - I cannot find the article that said S1 form for new arrivals after 31/12/21 was no longer valid - everything I can find seems to suggest it still is - once again, my apologies for erroneous advice.
To atone a little for my sins, here are two useful links. First is the Gov.uk link that tells you exactly what healthcare you can get and how (Convenio Especial, or register on Spanish Health system after 5 years etc etc)
