We are thinking of emigrating to the area and were wondering if there is a problem with mosquitoes as I suffer a very bad reaction to the bites. We have stayed in Mojacar Playa and I was bitten numerous times. If its like that inland we cannot consider a move to the area.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

it is a lovely area however no matter where you go you are likely to get bitten on occasions by mosquitoes.

Hi,

Agree with Paul plus there are lots of other flying, biting pests. My wife.is similarly beloved of mossies and has never found a good repellent. Even Deet!!!!

We keep a good supply of anti-histamines.

Best Wishes,

Thanks. I probably didn't word my question well enough. It's particularly bad at the coast I wondered if it was less severe inland.

Well Paul I live further up the hill in Oria and see a few mossies but not too many as no water near me, if there are the odd one or two about (depending on weather) then my partner is sure to be bitten.  About three/four weeks ago she was waking up with bites (wasn't me lol) but has eased now.

As Dr Bob & Sandra said have some anti histamines to hand as really helps.  Choose position of house carefully as you or next door may have a pool or nearby water deposit which will attract them but you can't avoid then totally nor the other beasties that exist here.

Hi Paul

I have the problem of being very attractive to mosquitoes too and my reaction when bitten can be googled under 'skeeter allergy'...very severe.. . I won't let it put us off moving out soon.

I have found a combination of routine and product works though and if I follow it I don't get bitten

1. Take vitamin B1 daily

2. Take an antihistamine daily

3. Use Autan Family Care stick on joints in particular (this product actually smells nice and not chemically)

4. Use Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray (Original fragrance) as a body moisturiser

5. Shower more frequently and definitely after physical exertion

6.  Encourage partner to use 4. too... It is quite unisex in fragrance

Good luck.... It works for me

Bye for now, Jane

Hello

We are signing for our new home in Partaloa today. Are there any dog walking groups I can join there?

The Almanzora group isn't too far away from you if you don't mind jumping in the car. It's a weekly walking group, not a dog walking group, but well behaved dogs are welcome on most walks, which usually last around an hour and a-half. If you PM me your email I can get you added to their information list. Walks are on Thursdays, in the winter they start at 3:30, in the summer I think at 6??

Also, you will find that if you live in the countryside in Almeria you are just a few minutes walk from the ramblas, the dry riverbeds that offer fabulous dog walking. You can suss what's near you quite well on your own, if you are patient and persistent. We walk between two and four hours a day (split between morning and evening) in our village on the north side of Huercal-Overa, the dogs love it and we have never been in such good physical condition ourselves!

I use incognito products not cheap but I find them effective and the are natural products,  they even protected me in Egypt.
