Where can you fish from

The beach in Palomares allows fishing from 20:00 in the evening. I don't know if you need a permit as it is not my bag. Plenty of notices in Spanish though near Akua beach bar giving the regulations. 

You certainly do need a licence to fish legally in Spain and you can get one so I hear from the fishing tackle shop behind the Garrucha petrol station on the coast road. 

You need a permit to fish from beach and a separate one for boat fishing. There is a fishing shop at the Repsol petrol station on the road from Garrucha to Mojacar Playa. They can apply for you. When I applied, last year it cost around Eur20 for three years for beach permit. I needed copies of passport and residencia all very simple and took about three days. Not sure if it would be more difficult without residencia. 

In terms of times you can fish, from 15th Sept to 15th May you can fish from beach at any time. Rest of year there are time restrictions, basically you cannot fish during the day. Check signs on beach for times. 

In our area, Palomares, you can fish from the rocky shore any time all year round. I am not sure if this is a local exception or not. Although we do see plenty of people fishing from harbours at all times through the year. 

Be aware that the penalties for fishing without a licence are severe including confiscation of equipment including your car if you used it to travel to fish. 

Thanks for the advice re fishing in palomares we will probably head for the shop at repsol petrol station to see if we can get a permit
