Hi,we have had our property in Palomares for about 12 years now, we have not paid tax on it in all that time, partly due to never being advised that we had too, and partly due to burying our heads in the sand. We now want to get everything legal and paid up, is it best to employ a representative to do this for us, as we don’t speak the language, (we are learning) ?  It is not our permanent home but we do intend to be out a lot more. We don’t have a bank account in Spain at the moment, is that essential to make things easier for us. Or can we do it all from our English bank account. The first thing we need to do is get our tax paid on the property, our friends have a fiscal rep who does this for them, is that the way to go? Sorry if my post is rambling a bit, but we have let things slide and I am despotic get it all back on track, just don’t know where to start.

Hi,

OK we had the same thing in Puerto Lumbreras again due to our Solicitor telling us that we had nil to pay as we had no services. 13 years later & 1200€ disappeared from Spanish Bank Account.

We enquired and discovered the Registered letter we had received & discarded was in fact an IBI demand.

Here's the good news- you can only be charged for 4 years + fines. So we paid 1200 not 3500€.

So your IBI number is on your escritura. You take this to the IBI office at Town Hall. But!!!!!!!!we tried to make DD to an offshore euro bank account & that failed so it has reverted to the Spanish Bank. If you go to the office & they give you a stamped form, that has to go to a Spanish Bank for payment.

Really frustrating. Maybe someone else.knows a way around.

Best wishes,

Bob and Sandra

Hi thank you for that, do you only get the Escritura if you own the property outright as we have a mortgage on our our apartment and can’t recall an Escritura amongst any paperwork that we have.

Hi,

That's interesting as yes the lender/ Bank may well retain the Deeds as Security.

In this case you will need to contact the lender to ascertain the IBI or thru.the Solicitor who acted on your behalf.

You might also enquire as to whether you can have a copy of your Deeds which they will mark to show NOT THE ORIGINAL.

Years ago I was embargoing some miscreant here & obtained a copy.to their deeds thru their Solicitor.

Do let us know if.you circumvent payment from UK as we keep very little in the Spanish Bank and need to top up episodically.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra
