Hi, we own an apartment in Palomares, which comes under Cuevas del Almanzora.

We have always paid our non resident taxes and the IBI through a gestor, the fees seem dis proportionate to the tax we pay.

We can get a company to pay the non resident taxes for us, but do not know how to go about getting our IBI bill and then setting up a direct debit,

Can anyone advise us please?

Hi we have also asked on the forum for information on this topic but have had no luck we have paid more in fees than tax so when we are over shortly our first step will be the town hall and ask there many you could try that all the best mark.

Thanks,

Yes, we intend to go to Cuevas town hall and try to ask the question, taking as much paperwork as possible.  If we get a result we will post it on here.

I think the amount we pay our lawyers at Mundi Abogados every year to sort out the non-resident tax is always more than the tax itself. Life in Spain is indeed very strange.

Thank you for your response.

Certainly it seems to be the case, that the fees are more than the tax paid.

Hello, we have done this today in Cuevas at the ayuntamiento ( took us a while to find it but it’s near the church/plaza and it has a glass door, you’d never know it was there! One lady speaks a little English - she printed off our bill ( and also our car tax bill) and you can take it to a bank that is listed on the form, but it can only be paid on a Tuesday or Thursday and before 1030!! And you only get a few days to pay (as we found out today, we must pay by Tuesday!) For this year’s tax which comes out in July she said she can set up the direct debit for us. Good luck!! Sorry for the long winded reply but I wish we’d been armed with all the facts beforehand!!

Hi everybody,

As posted by DebandRobin  above, we also went to Cuevas Ayunamiento at lunchtime, went to where we did the Padron, but they said it was the office where you pay the car tax, round by the church.

We went round there and saw a lovely young lady called Sandra, who speaks very good English. They have the records of our Basura payments and also the car tax but, it turns out that the solicitors we used when buying the property, never got the document registered at the Catastro in the town hall, so no payments of IBI for the last three years.

This young lady, Sandra telephoned back up at the town hall and then walked round with us and got the whole thing sorted for us, staying with us until finished. We have to go back to collect the documents next week, she will call us, then she said to bring our bank details or a certificate from the bank with the details and she will set up a direct debit as from July when it becomes due.

The young lady Sandra,  is the most helpful friendly person I have had dealings with since buying our property here.

Hope this is of help to others.
