Hi there we are in the process of buying a property in palomares,we are looking to retire there in around two years,my question is regarding the proof of income,do you have to prove that you have €26000 per individual or per couple?

Others will tell you more, but as a couple it’s that figure for the first person then an additional €6000 (approx) for the second.

That’s assuming you’re third country national. TCN

Straight from the consulate visa information sheet

1 Passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended arrival to Spain with at least two blank pages to affix the visa.

2 One completely filled and signed National Visa Application Form.

3 One recent passport colour photograph. (No more than six months old)

4 A UK residence permit valid for at least 3 months. It can be either in form of Visa stamped on the applicant’s passport or a Residency Card.

5 Visa fee, when applicable (currently €60)

6 Medical Certificate signed and stamped by a registered doctor. This Certificate must literally state that the Applicant does not suffer of any illness which represents a risk or a danger for the public according to the International Health Regulation of 2005

7 Certificate of Good Conduct issued by the country or countries where the applicant has resided in the past five years. If the document is not in English or Spanish it will also need to be provided with a Sworn Translation.

8 Full health cover for applicant and, if applicable, family member.

9 Means of maintenance in Spain in form of 2200 € per month (Approx £1750 at the time of printing) for the main applicant. Each family member will need € 550 per month (£ 440 at the time of printing) 

10 Photocopies of all documents mentioned above.

All documents must be translated into Spanish

Hi, does the money required need to be in the form of an income or could it be in the form of savings in a bank account? If in the form of savings, how many years would the savings need to cover? Hope this makes sense, Stewert.

Hi Stewart,

It just needs to be in your bank. As I understand it from the consulate in Edinburgh you need to be able to demonstrate that you have that amount available so it could be either income, savings or a combination of both.
