HahaYer I did know about the bomb
Hello,
Palomares has a little bit of everything and in walking distance too.
Property is slightly lower in price than some other areas close to the beach but the agencies vary a lot, ask the stupid questions because it is not the same as the UK. Make sure you see everything, garage and water meters etc. Make sure your solicitor does what you want because they are not the same as the UK - vitally important that they check there is no debt to the owner because it travels with the property.
Also, check out your commuinty before you sign anything. Although there are laws governing rights of property owners in communes not all associations are good ones. I was reliably told by two Spanish agents that 80-85% of associations are badly run in Palomares (including my own and I still bought here) and there are no accounts - you should, by law be able to see four completed years of accounts and the current years accounts before you buy. Really worth getting the gen on the Horizontal Titles Act in English before you start?
There are problems with ex-pat communities everywhere, not just Spain not just Brits? Too many people come here and live the holiday life with no other interests. To be fair there are less opportunities for groups and activities than in the UK and less big shops, so you need to travel to get some items - just weave it in to your days out or tourist trip? In smaller communities the ex-pat contingent is small and very village like, yes, you will be in or out of that clique, as you like or not.. There are plenty of other Brits about in the greater area.
And ask lots of questions on here?
Good Luck!

Yes a lot of these communities built during the boom period never had the permissions to be built in the first place. The last apartment I had was in a 36 flat long established community, when about to move I found out it never had had the correct permissions to have been constructed there in the first place. When I confronted the estate agency I bought from and ultimately resold it through their response was " that's normal just hope the buyer's abogado doesn't investigate that too much".....

There is nothing to be concerned about niw. The presence of the fruit and veg that is produced and Exported by Tesco and J S to the UK is proof.
So dont scaremonger, the area is thriving and will continue to do so .
