Hello.

I’m hoping someone can help with some questions and quarries I have about long term rental in the Palomares area, with the possibility of a permanent move later. Although my quarries are aimed at the rental at present, which hopefully will be early/mid 2021.

First a bit of background.

I’ll will be 66, my wife will be 56. We are both retired, and live off both our private pensions. We are both in good health, as far as we a aware.

My questions concern:-

What documents will I need for us to rent for 3/6 months, I.e. will I need to register with any local administration/councils/etc?

Will I need health cover, either private or state?

I appreciate that the Covid-19 pandemic and of course Brixit may make it very difficult to give definitive answers at the moment, but I just need to “get the ball rolling” so to speak.

Also if anyone has anything that they think would be useful to know, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you in anticipation.

Mike.

Palomares is  a very good choice .

A market .supermarkets everything close at hand in the village .

As from end December the criteria will change for Residencia.

Probably the Consulate will be the best advice together.  Wait until 2021 to get the exact info

Wishing you both   Best of luck  x

Hi Mikey,

My partner and I are of similar ages to you and your wife and also live off private pensions. We moved out here just over 1 year ago The regulations regarding staying here more than 90 days will change significantly from January 1st, and not for the better.

As non EU citizens you will only be permitted to stay in the Schengen zone for a total of 90 days in a period of 180 days. If you want to stay for longer than that you will need to become a resident but that will be more difficult to achieve than it isnow particularly because of the increased financial requirements ( I believe income of  26000 for one person, not sure how much more for a spouse).

You will definitely need health insurance from Jan 1st. If you apply for residency you will also need to purchase 12 months of health insurance in advance.

It's a lovely lifestyle here and well worth the move. If you could get here before January it would give you more options and make things easier.

Best of luck!

Thank you very much for this information, it’s just what I’m looking for. We’re not in a position to come over before next year, unfortunately.  Suspect we will need to consider our move when the full detail from Brexit are revealed.

Thank you again.

Mikey.

Hi again Mikey,

If you haven't already looked at it, google the Citizens Advice Spain forum. It's full of really helpful and accurate information, including all the post Brexit regulations and requirements.

Best wishes Juliet
