You don't say whether you've been to the area before, if not I think the first thing would be to be clear about the area you want to focus on: do you want to be in the more busy and active area around Mojacar Playa, further up the coast in somewhere like Vera Playa or Palomares that benefits from walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants but is still close to the beach, or do you want to go more inland where you might get more property for your money? Although the internet will give you a lot of information you can't really get a feel for the different areas online, so a week or so's holiday driving around the area will probably narrow down your preferences a bit. Many people then recommend that when you do make the move over you rent initially. Good luck with your search and preparations.

Hello Rob - Thanks for the reply. Our general plan at the moment is as you suggested, come over & select a base from which we then would look to explore further alongside other areas before deciding where we would like to finally settle. We currently rent in the UK after selling our house two years ago as we knew we didn't wish to retire to our current location so would be looking to continue that option at least initially. Think Rob has said it all although feel a visit of a week or even 2 might not be enough. In fact we usually advise a visit in Summer & again in Winter. Ever thought of hiring or even owning a motorhome? Animals no problem and so many free sites down here as well as campsites. Then you can explore at leisure & no rent. The beach here is lined with them at the moment.

The secret is, don't rush, don't listen to the pundits in the bars, don't make 'friends' with those who may have a vested interest, use a respectable estate agent and Solicitor (take advice on those), Insure & ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE IF POSSIBLE.
