We have bought a cortijo about 5 km south of Oria and about 2 km from the rambla that we are renovating currently. It took us 12 months to discover the location and we experienced all types of weather. It’s beautiful here and much better weatherwise and scenic wise than any area we have visited...

.... Yes it gets cold in the months of February to April but that is tolerable provided you make provision.

The beauty about the location is Spring, Summer and Autumn is much better than the coastal region. So it’s horses for courses but if you really want an attractive area, Oria is the place! We look forward to our house being completed next year!

The temperatures at night has gone down to 9 degrees recently but the sun has burnt off any hint of chill in the air by 10am and we have had some warm days and the forecast is for very good weather next two weeks or so. Warm today at a genuine 20 degrees!

My husband and I moved to a Cortijo 8kms outside Oria village 2 months ago and absolutely love it. The air is so clean and fresh due to the altitude and the scenery is stunning. Yes it can get cold at the moment when the sun goes down but if you have a log fire roaring you are all snug and warm. It can get windy at times but we are amazed at how it can be chilly one day and the next it’s warm enough to sunbath again. We love where we live and look forward to experiencing all that this area has to offer over the years to come - weather/scenery/people/village/wildlife = loving life 🥰

I live in Oria and would not live near the coast as it can get very hot in the summer.  The night temperatures in oct, nov, dec,Jan can drop to 8 or 9.  Feb, Mar and April can drop lower.  I have lived here for 7 years and I have seen snow twice, both in a feb.  On both occasion...

...s there was only about an inch covering, the sun came out and it melted in the afternoon.  I have a calorgas fire which is fine for the oct, nov, dec, jan evenings.  I have central heating if I need it for Mar or april.  I have not topped up my oil for two years, most peop!e have wood burners.  What I like about Oria is that it has some sort of seasons unlike the coast.  Most months we have sun in the day time.  I would say on my behalf that Mar and April can be the coldest depending on the year as we can also get cold winds.  So a lot depends on how much you feel the cold.

I hope this helps, if you need any more information please private message me.  Unfortunately people who do not live here can only give you information passed on from others.

Hi,

I was also thinking to buy a house in Oria and I was wondering if the summers are unbearably hot?

What is the highest temperature in the summer months? I believe it should be cooler than the coast being at an altitude of 1000mt?

Much appreciated

Simona

This Summer just gone it was hot for a short period but it was certainly not unbearable here in Oria. During July we were still sitting out at 2am and it was about 30°C. It was wonderful!

What you've got to remember is that what you consider hot at the start of your stay is not so after a couple of years as you will acclimatise. Having experienced the coastal region during Summer I certainly am glad we decided to settle here in Oria. If you want to go to the beach for the day, it's only 40 minutes away but the scenery inland and access to motorways to see even more makes it a no brainer being here.

Of course it's always best to visit the area. February is beautiful with the almond blossom. We love it on our farm, such a beautiful time of year!

Thank-you so much, it’s very helpful to know about the weather from someone who lives there and not only rely on Google weather forecast. I will be visiting Oria in mid-December and I will view a farm house then. I can’t wait! 😄

Excellent. Only thing you need to concern yourself is that if you are getting work done, speak to other people first as recommendation goes a long way. Let us know when you're over and feel free to visit. We have the most wonderful situation.

Nice in the summer

Colder than UK in winter

People we knew had to move as they couldn't afford to heat their villa

Hence property's are much cheaper and thats the reason.

Plus I don't like the drive up there very dangerous driving. Plus it shows and vet windy.

Once you get use to the heat all summer you will feel the cold even more.

Colder than UK

Good luck

Villas are cheaper as its so cold

We live in Albox and its cold enough here Oria is approx 4 or 5 degs cooler

But more wind, snow etc.

It's the same height as snowdon so it's cold. Google snow in oria. They don't grow oranges or lemons there

Only Almonds and to grow these it has to be cold to grow them.

I am only telling you the truth so you know.

Well that's the most biased view if ever I read one. What utter rubbish. It says you are located in Albox which is about 16km by road and 11 km as the crow flies from Oria and you claim that it is colder here than the U.K. in winter?

I sympathise with your friend not being able to afford to heat his or her house but that does not give you the reason to get your facts wrong! On average we are 2-3°C different to you in Albox and that is a fact.

It's the old story. People who get second hand information then expand on it. Chinese Whispers ...

Surely as I said earlier, it's for the writer to visit and make up her own mind rather that getting so called "facts" from all and sundry. Having lived in Albox, I know where I prefer to live. Oria!
