Hi, one step nearer. We are returning to the UK in two weeks time to collect our visas from Manchester.

Could anyone advise us of the sequence when we return with them to obtain the TIE please.

Do we need to make any appointments etc, if so, where?

Many thanks  Jean and Phil

You can do it yourself on line or visit CATS in Alfoquia and they can talk you through it.

If you are not conversant with Spanish (both the language and the bureaucracy) you’d be advised to retain someone to assist you.

Once you have returned with your visas, you then have 30 days in which to commence the process of applying for a TIE.  One of the first things you’ll need to do is reserve an appointment online - this commences the application and “stops the clock” so to speak.

You’ll need to go to your Ayuntamiento of the district you live in and get a Padrón.  This will require proof of your residential address such as a rental agreement (for more than 3 months to qualify as long term rental) or deeds / proof of ownership of your own property.  This is generally a straightforward process and you’ll receive your Certificados de Empadronamiento (which are required for TIE application) between 3 days to a week later.

You’ll then have to take a particular form to the bank, where you pay a fee and the bank will imprint the receipt on this form … this is proof of payment of application fee.

You can do it yourself, but so much easier and smoother if you use a gestor who is used to the process and can produce all the correct documentation (Padrón is however something you have to do yourself)
