Evening friends, so we have found a lovely villa in cantoria (outskirts) that we really like and just want some info about the area, is it a nice area to live etc.... and where are the great places to visit/eat

Hi Pete and Adele

We also saw a place we liked a lot on the outskirts of Cantoria.  I am sure there are people there you are v happy who I would not like to offend, but the reasons we decided against ( and some is hearsay, so it is just for what it is worth).  The marble factories that apparently make a lot of noise and dust,  employing a lot of low paid workers from outside Spain. It is a long drive to the coast, so any rental potential could be more difficult.  We could not find any bars with menus ( this was probably due to lack of skill in looking: Cantoria has very very narrow streets so you cannot drive around and search, the only two cafes on tripadviser were in a factory complex and a garage, there did seem to be a couple of bars in the central square though).  We did think the country around was beautiful, the prices of the houses were cheaper, it is not very far from Albox where there are all kinds of shops and eating places, I think there is a market in Cantoria, it might be easier to make Spainsh friends if there are fewer expats.

Hi Pete & Adele.

I have lived just on the outskirts of the village of Cantoriafor 15  years  ( 5/ 7 minute walk into the village) We have NEVER suffered with  noise or dust from the marble factory, in fact it is situated at the far end of the village towards Almanzora. Cantoria is a safe and lovely place to live, we have  a market on Wednesday , gas man calles around every Tuesday  and the water man every day. We have everything you need here  Drs, chemist Post office  hairdressers  butchers  lovely schools  and

good supermarkets ,  four banks  .All the bars do food  albeit tapas  but Miguel's bar does lovely food and has a menu in English. This is a safe place to live.        You have to come  and see and make up your own mind.  There is also a lovely man by the name of George Gonzales that is employed by the town hall for free  translating for trips to the drs etc.

       All the best    Hiacynth
