We we are moving to our new house soon just outside Oria and I wondered whether to sign up with the health centre in Oria or the one in Albox. I’ve heard mixed reports about Oria’s health centre  but probably slightly more positive about the one in Albox. Can I ask other people’s opinion? As yet our Spanish is pretty limited if that makes a difference. Andy

Hi Andy,

I have only just seen your message so you may have sorted it out by now.

You technically have to register with a doctor in your 'catchment' area which in your case will be Oria.

This facilitates Doctors home visits if necessary and emergency call-outs or Ambulance.

If the doctor at Oria has a full agenda of patients they will then instruct you to register with Albox.

I have not been to Oria for some time but assume they do not have a 24hr Urgencias like Albox so in any case, in an emergency, you would go to Urgencias at the Albox medical centre or an ambulance would be sent to you from Albox so you only need your Doctor in Oria for consultations or repeat persrciptions.

The thing is, if you register at Albox with a Doctor there is no guarantee the same doctor will see you twice as they tend to move around a lot here.

I would advise that you register at Oria to start with and see how it goes and if you want to transfer to Albox you can do so later.

Hope this helps and sorry it's so late.

Donna x

I have lived here for eight years and cannot fault the medical centre.

I have had a leg injury that needed dressing every two days for four months, a chest problem that when in with the doctor he contact the hospital while I waited on the Wednesday and had an appointment for a scan on the monday.  The staff are lovely and helpful.  It is a 24 hour medical centre with its own ambulance, which not many small villages have.  The only problem is they do not speak English but they do it speak English in albox either.  There are a couple of translator s in the village who do not charge a lot.  If the problem does not need much subscription I normally translate it and take the note with me.

Brilliant thanks for that. I’ll just have to keep at the Spanish.

We also can’t fault the Oria medical centre.

On occasions that Dr Pedro hasn’t been there I’ve had to see the lady doctor, and although she seems to have earned herself a bit of a ‘reputation’, she has always been courteous & diligent with me?

The lady that Jenni had problems with has thankfully gone.  Not sure who has taken her place but I have not heard any bad comments.

oria medical centre has a 24hour emergency centre with its own ambulance, this would be quicker than being one from Albox.

The 24 hour medical centre was one of the reasons we bought I. Oria.  There is always a doctor on call, but the ambulance staff and nurses are also very well trained.
